Addiction; the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity. Whether it is the activity of working (read playing) with makeup or the substance of makeup itself I am well and truly addicted. Though, not unlike most other addictions, it comes at a price. Quite literally. So as the year draws to a close and I reflect on just how mush cash has been splashed around on cosmetic beauties, I though it was apt for my first blog post to be about 4 key products that brought me joy all 2013 long. Now I am not saying that these are all brand new to the market or hidden gems, but in the sea of makeup for four products to stand out they must be pretty amazing!
1. NYX Matte Bronzer
Just because I am Indian doesn’t mean I was automatically born with gorgeous cheek bones, but in the past it has been next to impossible to find an appropriate contour shade that is dark and deep enough. That is until NYX came along. Their Matte Bronzer in Deep Tan has been a real winner. A natural and effective everyday contour colour that doesn’t run too orange or red and compliments the golden undertones that are in Indian skin. I have found that certain brushes kick up a lot of product so it is important to use a light hand and build up the colour, but the powder itself is pigmented, buttery goodness. A definite must have for darker girls who struggle to find a contour colour, but the large shade range definitely caters to most. To top it all off the packaging is gorgeous and sleek, you get a heck of a lot of product and at only $9.00 it won’t have you paying it off for the next few months.
2. NARS Heatwave Lipstick
This is a fairly new purchase but wow is it gorgeous for the spring/summer time. It is a beautiful orange-red lipstick, that for once doesn’t make your teeth look a stained shade of yellow. As with all NARS lipsticks, the formulation is creamy, long wearing and comfortable on the lips. The product doesn’t have any obnoxious scents and I find is moisturising on the lips and doesn’t accentuate those yucky dry flaky bits you can sometimes have. Heatwave has a nice sheen to its finish but is certainly not glossy, glittery or shimmery. You would think such a bold colour is difficult to wear but there’s something about it that just works to just give any outfit a bit of pizazz. Now if you’re an Australian girl, the cost of this might make your bank account a little nervous at $39 but I think it is totally worth it.

3. Stila Kitten All Over Shimmer Duo
A gorgeous duo with two very wearable and complimenting highlighter shades. This is my go to every day product! I use the lighter colour down my nose, on my cupids bow and sometimes my inner tear duct and the darker shade as a cheekbone highlight (it looks great with the NYX Matte Bronzer). Stila has done it again with a super buttery formulation that just glides onto the face without appearing streaky or glittery. It just gives you such a stunning glow. I also apply it to my collar bones which makes those babies stand out and voilà you have a modelesque décolletage. Because of the amazing pigmentation, be careful to use a light hand when applying this to your face, unless you’re aiming to resemble a disco ball for a costume party. For the quality and size of the product you get the price point is actually quite reasonable, even in Australia, at $32.
4. NYX Runway Collection 10 Colour Eyshadow Palette in “Strike a Pose”
This is such an underrated palette and I use it every day so I couldn’t not talk about this beauty! When you see beauty bloggers and vloggers talking about the NYX 10 eyeshadow palettes, everyone always mentions Caviare and Bubbles, but this Strike a Pose palette is absolutely phenomenal. It is literally the only palette you will need when travelling. The palette has a matte black, matte white and a matte brown in the perfect shade for a crease colour and filling in your brows. In your shimmer colours you have your more neutral shades with a brown, bronze, gold and peach (the peach makes for a phenomenal brow bone highlight) and then a shimmery red, purple and green to add a pop of colour to any eye look. I always used to be scared of reds, but the red in this palette just works! It warms up the look and looks gorgeous right in the centre of the eyelid or run along the lower lash line. The whole Runway Collection eyeshadows are soft, creamy and super pigmented and blendable. The work even better over the top of a good eye primer or white base and your eye look will last you all night! NYX does it again on the price point and owning this baby will cost you less than $10.
So there you have it folks, some new pretties for you to check out in the new year (or a Christmas gift idea for yourself or someone else). I am going to try write up a post every other day at least during this holiday period and the content will range from beauty to lifestyle and fashion to the controversial debates I often have with myself, so please let me know if there are any specific topics you want to hear my esteemed opinion on.
