Balm Mint (Melissa Officinalis) Leaf Extract: a soothing, cooling extract with antiseptic and sedative properties. Good fro depression and tension, restorative to the nervous system, antispasmodic.

Banana (Musa Sapientum) Fruit: an emollient additive that provides both creamy texture and antioxidants.

Basil (Ocimum Basilicum) Leaf Oil: belongs to the labiate botanical family, which contains the largest number of medicinal plants. This essential oil contains linalol, thymol, tannins, pinene and camphor, making it excellent for healing and soothing the skin. It has a stimulating effect on the skins circulation and the oil glands, and is also balancing. Excellent for use on muscular aches and pains.

Beeswax: waxy component in many skin care products, provides moisture as well as a barrier mechanism. Also an emulsifier (helps oil and water blending). May be mildly comedogenic.

Bee Pollen: extract rich in vitamins, amino acids and minerals. Antioxidant, soothing and healing.

Bentonite: a naturally occurring white clay from volcanic ash. Absorbs oil and is excellent for refining appearance or large pores

Benzoin: a euphoric essential oil, used to ease nervous tension and stress related complaints

Bemotrizinol (Tinsorb S): UV radiation blocker used in suncreen

Benzalkonium Chloride: preservative, may occasionally cause allergy or sensitivity with continuous use.

Benzethonium Chloride: a preservative against broad spectrum microorganisms (fingu, bacteria, algae). Typically used in concentrations under 0.5%

Benzoic Acid: preservative against growth of microorganisms, effective against fungi but only marginally useful against bacteria. Typically used in concentrations from 0.05 to 0.1%. Sensitivity to benzoic acid is rare, but possible.

Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone), Benzophenone-4 (Sulisobenzone): UV radiation blockers used in sunscreen.

Benzoyl Peroxide: antibacterial agent that kills P. Acnes (the germ responsible for acne breakouts). Can be drying and/or irritating. Some develop high skin sensitivity to benzoyl peroxide. Available in both prescription and OTC forms ranging from 2.5 to 10%.

Benzyl Alcohol: antibacterial preservative typically used in concentrations 1 to 3%. May cause skin irritation.

Bergamot (Citrus Aurantium Bergamia) Oil: Citrus essential oil excellent for use when anxiety, depression or stress related conditions are present. A refreshing, uplifting essential oil.

Beta-Carotene: present in quantitiy in a variety of orange/yellow fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, cantaloupe and papaya. Carotene has an orange colour that oxidises (fades) when exposed to sunlight. It is converted into Vitamin A by the body and is used for its cellular renewal and healing abilities.

Beta Hydroxy Acid: a subclass of organic acids; the most common one is salicylic acid, a long term ingredient used for exfoliation of dry skin as well as for acne therapy.

BHT: potent synthetic oil soluble antioxidant often used a preservative against rancidity.

Bilberry (Vaccinium Myrtillus) Leaf Extract: a natural flavanoid with anti oxidant properties. Improves micro circulation and protects cells and membranes from free radical damage.

Bioflavonoids: naturally found in a number of fruits and plants, particularly citrus fruits. Help reduce inflammation, strengthen capillaries and stimulate healthy circulation.

Birch (Betula Verrucosa) Leaf Extract: antiseptic, softening and circulation stimulating. Helps to heal skin irritations.

Bitter Orange (Citrus Uranium Amara) Fruit Oil: oil from the outer peel of the orange fruit, known for its potent antioxidant properties.

Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum) Extract: stimulates circulation, promotes good muscle tone, has detoxifying and diuretic benefits.

Black Spruce (Picea Nigra) Oil: essential oil known for its ability to help relieve muscular aches and pains, alleviate anxiety and produce a grounding effect.

Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra) Nut Extract: non comedogenic ingredient with astringent and fungistatic properties; soothing and anti itching.

Blueberry (Vaccinium Angustifolium) Oil: antioxidant rich oil with high concentrations of Vitamin C and two skin beneficial compounds; anthocyanin, a flavanoid and ellagic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant.

Bisoctrizol (Tinosorb M): UV radiation blocker used in sunscreens

Boric Acid: an antiseptic used as a preservative to prevent yeast overgrowth. May be irritating.

Borage (Borago Officinalis) Oil: anti inflammatory, beneficial for sensitive skins; rich in Vitamin C, potassium and calcium. Emollient and soothing to sore eyes. Very high in gamma linoleic acid, said to help slow skin’s ageing process

Boswellia Serrata Extract: an extract well known in Ayurvedic medicine for its calming, anti redness, anti inflammatory properties. It also reduces irritant effects of extreme pH. An ideal ingredient in products designed for sensitive skin.

Bromelain: a proteolytic enzyme derived from pineapple stem. Digests dead protein, as in surface skin cells..

Butylene Glycol: a humectant resistant to high humidity; also antimicrobial and preservative
